Affiliate Marketing Glossary For You

Affiliate - An individual or website owner who promotes a merchant's product. The affiliate earns a commision from the merchant for each referral that ends up being a sale. The merchant handles the payment and fulfillment of the order.

Affiliate Networks - A "common place" as it were, where merchants and affiliates work together. Merchants join the network in order to harness the marketing efforts of affiliates. This significantly lower the advertising expenses of merchants as affiliates advertise extensively.

Autoresponder - It's a program that automatically sends messages to prospective customers after they have volutantarily submitted their names and e-mails. The autoresponder may be set up to send sequential messages on predetermined times.

Blog - It's like a journal. It is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent entry.

Blogger - Someone who blogs. The blog owner who posts articles regularly on the blog.

Browser - Program that allows you to surf the net. e.g Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox

Conversion Page - This is an important page where the user will complete a required action e.g placing an order, of filling out an interest form.

Domain name - A unique name distinguishing each site on the net e.g www.google.com

Ezine - An online magazine distributed to those who have opted to receive it by submitting their names and e-mails to the website owner.So the E stands for electronic, while "zine" is the shortened form of magazine.

FTP - FTP stands for file transfer protocol. It is a medium used to transfer files from your computer to your Host's computer servers. Though you can transfer files directly to yourhost's computer servers by using control panel, other people prefer using FTP. You can download free versions on the net. Just google "free ftp"

HTML - You still don't know what HTML stands for?? Just kidding. It stands for Hyper Text Markup Language.

IP Address - Its a unique address for each computer on the internet. The address is a set of four numbers separated by periods.The first set of numbers indicate the domain. The second set indicate the network. The third set indicate the sub-network while the fourth set of digits indicate the host computer.

ISP (Internet Service Provider) - Internet access is bought from ISPs. Individuals and companies utilize ISPs.

Rinse and Repeat - If you have a proven and tested way of doing something, get on with it and don't deviate from the usual approach. But what if that doesn't solve it? Well, think outside the box. Just don't re-invent the wheel.

Tweak - Tweak refers to minor changes you may make to your website, maybe a sales page. The whole point is to maximize its efficiency.
